Chronicle of An Unquiet Age
Vision 2020
Vision 2020 captures a year defined by disruption, uncertainty, and rapid transformation. The United States entered the year in the midst of impeachment proceedings, only to face an unprecedented global pandemic that would alter daily life, economies, and public discourse worldwide. Lockdowns, rising death tolls, and shifting policies created a climate of fear and constant change, while institutions and leadership were tested in real time.
As the year progressed, civil unrest and nationwide protests followed the killing of George Floyd, bringing issues of race, justice, and policing to the forefront. Simultaneously, a deeply polarized presidential election intensified divisions, culminating in a contentious and highly scrutinized political season.
Each painting documents these events as they unfolded—capturing not only the headlines, but the atmosphere surrounding them. Vision 2020 reflects a moment when the pace of history accelerated, and the present felt both immediate and uncertain, marking the beginning of a new and unsteady era.
Transitional Works: 2020–2021
The five paintings beginning with Battle for the White House mark the transition from the original 2020 series into the events that unfolded following the inauguration of President Biden in 2021. At the time these works were created, the archive was not originally intended to continue beyond 2020. However, the political, cultural, and global developments that followed led the series to expand into an ongoing real-time historical record.
These transitional works preserve the continuity between the original Vision 2020 series and the evolving archive while retaining their original creation dates and TRTA catalog numbers.
