Battle For the White House

Every painting in Chronicle of an Unquiet Age documents the defining events, people, and issues that shaped its moment in history. Created in real time as events unfolded, each work serves as both an original oil painting and a historical record, reflecting the belief that the news of today is the history of tomorrow.

TRTA-2020-020 | December 2020 | Oil on Canvas | 35" x 26"

The twentieth work in the Vision 2020 series captures the escalating battle over the outcome of the 2020 presidential election as competing claims, recount efforts, and legal challenges intensified. With control of the White House at stake, political tensions remained high long after Election Day.

Courtroom references, ballots, flags, headlines, and handwritten commentary move across the composition like breaking news updates, reflecting disputes over key states, vote counting, certification, and the legitimacy of the final result. The imagery conveys a nation locked in uncertainty while both sides fought for advantage. Ted Cruz, Mark Levin, Ken Paxton and Josh Hawley are featured  as Certification of Biden becomes and issue. "You cannot certify that which you cannot verify."

Created in real time, the painting preserves the atmosphere of suspense, anger, and exhaustion that defined November 2020. As a historical time capsule, it records how the contest for presidential power extended beyond the ballot box into courts, media, and public opinion.
