Every painting in Chronicle of an Unquiet Age documents the defining events, people, and issues that shaped its moment in history. Created in real time as events unfolded, each work serves as both an original oil painting and a historical record, reflecting the belief that the news of today is the history of tomorrow.

TRTA-2020-007 | May 2020 | Oil on Canvas | 35" x 26"

This work in the Vision 2020 series examines the growing debates over monuments, censorship, public memory, and cultural identity that intensified during 2020. As protests spread and institutions responded, Americans argued not only about the present, but about how the past should be remembered.

Statues, flags, historical figures, headlines, and handwritten phrases move across the composition, reflecting battles over symbols, language, and national heritage. Calls for accountability appear beside concerns over erasure, free expression, and the loss of shared history.

The painting preserves the charged atmosphere of a year when culture itself became political terrain. As a historical time capsule, it records a moment when conflicts over memory became conflicts over the future.
