Fight For Freedom

Every painting in Chronicle of an Unquiet Age documents the defining events, people, and issues that shaped its moment in history. Created in real time as events unfolded, each work serves as both an original oil painting and a historical record, reflecting the belief that the news of today is the history of tomorrow.

The sixth work in the Vision 2020 series turns to the protests, unrest, and national debate that followed the death of George Floyd in the summer of 2020. Demonstrations across the country brought urgent questions of justice, policing, equality, and public order to the center of American life.Protest imagery, patriotic symbols, headlines, and handwritten phrases fill the composition, reflecting both demands for reform and fears over violence, division, and instability. The painting captures how one tragic event quickly became a broader reckoning over race, history, and the meaning of freedom.Created in real time, the work preserves the emotional intensity of that summer—grief, anger, activism, confusion, and hope. As a historical time capsule, it records a defining chapter in the struggle over America’s future and identity.
