Every painting in Chronicle of an Unquiet Age documents the defining events, people, and issues that shaped its moment in history. Created in real time as events unfolded, each work serves as both an original oil painting and a historical record, reflecting the belief that the news of today is the history of tomorrow.

TRTA-2020-021 | January 2021 | Oil on Canvas | 34" x 26"
The twenty-first work in the Vision 2020 January 6, 2021 series captures the events of January 6, 2021, when protests in Washington, D.C. culminated in the breach of the United States Capitol during the certification of the presidential election. The day quickly became one of the most shocking and debated moments in recent American history.
In this painting we see references to Donald Trump, DC Mayor Bowser, Mike Pence, law enforcement, lawmakers and public reaction reveal how the event was experienced simultaneously as protest, riot, and constitutional crisis. Pence ultimately certifies Joe Biden as President.
This painting preserves the atmosphere of disbelief, tension, and national trauma that marked the day. As a historical time capsule, it records a moment when political division erupted physically at the seat of American government.
