Acquittal 2.0

Every painting in Chronicle of an Unquiet Age documents the defining events, people, and issues that shaped its moment in history. Created in real time as events unfolded, each work serves as both an original oil painting and a historical record, reflecting the belief that the news of today is the history of tomorrow.

TRTA-2020-025 | February 2021 | Oil on Canvas | 34" x 26"

The twenty-fifth and final work in the Vision 2020 series captures the February 13, 2021 Senate acquittal following the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump. Closing a dramatic chapter that began with the turmoil of January 6, the verdict marked another historic moment in an era defined by division, confrontation, and constitutional debate.

This painting reflects the meaning of impeachment after a president had left office. Seven Republicans voted to impeach with the vote 57 guilty 43 not guilty. 67 votes were needed to convict. Trump now resides in

Mar A Lago, Florida and may launch his own Social Media Platform. Trump speaks at CPAC 2021 and promises to "Make America Great Again."

The painting preserves the atmosphere of unresolved tension that followed the proceedings. As a historical snap shot it records the closing scene of the Vision 2020 series and the end of one of the most turbulent political periods in modern American history.
