How Far Can We Fall

Every painting in Chronicle of an Unquiet Age documents the defining events, people, and issues that shaped its moment in history. Created in real time as events unfolded, each work serves as both an original oil painting and a historical record, reflecting the belief that the news of today is the history of tomorrow.

This work in The Next Chapter series reflects the growing sense of national frustration that marked the final months of 2021. The How Far Can We Fall,  painting captures concerns over inflation, crime, border pressures, foreign setbacks, and declining confidence in political leadership. Senator Joe Brasso said

"Joe Biden is acting like a Mad Hatter" pushing his Alice in Wonderland Build Back Better Bill that will destroy the American economy." Americans are seeing Biden's bad policies are failing. Failing on foreign policy, failing on inflation, failing on crime. China is advancing on Taiwan and Russia is advancing in Ukraine. The Ghislaine Maxwell trial begins and Comey's daughter Maurene is prosecuting. Jussie Smollett is found guilty on 5 of 6 counts in his race hoax trial. Chris Cuomo is suspended indefinitely from CNN. there are daily warnings, presenting a country wrestling with multiple pressures at once. The title expresses a broader question being asked across the political spectrum about standards, stability, and America’s future direction. Painted in real time, the work preserves the atmosphere of disappointment, anger, and uncertainty that defined this period. This is a moment when many citizens feared the nation’s problems were deepening faster than they were being solved.
