Battle to Save the World

Every painting in Chronicle of an Unquiet Age documents the defining events, people, and issues that shaped its moment in history. Created in real time as events unfolded, each work serves as both an original oil painting and a historical record, reflecting the belief that the news of today is the history of tomorrow.

TRTA-2022-044 | April 2022 | Oil on Canvas | 34" x 26"

By April 2022, Russia’s assault on Ukraine had entered a brutal new phase, with images shocking the world and prompting renewed calls for accountability. The United States and European allies expanded military aid and sanctions, while inflation, rising fuel prices, and supply-chain strain continued to pressure daily life at home. Battle to Save the World reflects a moment when war abroad and instability at home felt deeply connected. In this painting Zelenskyy channels Winston Churchill saying " We will NOT give up...We will not lose. We will fight to the end." China comes to the rescue of Russia with "Unionpay" China's alternative to Visa and Mastercard. Under Secretary Victoria Newland testifies before Congress U.S. funded bio weapon labs are in Ukraine and that she is afraid Putin will use bio weapons against the world. Ukrainians are bombed and killed daily. as well as Russians. Putin threatens nuclear war as Biden quietly sits by as people wonder if Hunter's Energy Management Scam in Ukraine's Barisma and Joe's Quid Pro Quo have anything to do with his silence.  Fox's own "Son of a Bitch" as Biden has called him questions Press Secretary Jen Psaki if Biden will blame everything on Putin until the midterms? Inflation... Putin, Highset gas prices in history...Putin, Supply chain...Putin. "Truth is the first casualty of war" and Biden needs to start telling the truth. Domestic concerns over prices, economic confidence, and political division run alongside the international crisis. The title speaks to more than one battlefield. It suggests a struggle over democracy, sovereignty, truth, and the future direction of world affairs during a dangerous and uncertain spring. Seen now, Battle to Save the World preserves the atmosphere of April 2022, when many believed the stakes of current events reached far beyond one nation’s borders.
