The eleventh work in The Next Chapter series captures the sense of instability and mounting pressure that marked the summer of 2021. Titled America on the Brink, the painting reflects growing concerns over inflation, border security, foreign policy challenges, crime, and declining public confidence in national leadership.
"The Day of Surrender" has arrived as Biden decides to leave Afghanistan in disgrace and deliver the country to the Taliban on August 31, 2021. Without warning Biden abandons Bagram Air Force Base and featured is Afghan President Ghani who flees the country announcing the new government "Islamic Emerite of Afghanistan." Also featured is Donald Trump calling for Biden to resign as he has allowed Afghanistan disatrous withdrawl, Covid surge, Border catastrope and a crippled economy to all happen under his watch. Mayorkas is featured as 212,647 illegals cross into America in one month ... the highest number in 20 years..In this painting it presents a nation confronting multiple crises at once. References to economic strain, social division, and questions of competence suggest a country standing at a critical turning point.
The work preserves the atmosphere of anxiety, frustration, and uncertainty that defined this period. and records a moment when many Americans felt the nation was being tested on several fronts simultaneously.
