Let's Go Brandon

Every painting in Chronicle of an Unquiet Age documents the defining events, people, and issues that shaped its moment in history. Created in real time as events unfolded, each work serves as both an original oil painting and a historical record, reflecting the belief that the news of today is the history of tomorrow.

TRTA-2021-032 | October 2021 | Oil on Canvas | 34" x 26"

This work in The Next Chapter series captures the emergence of the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon, which quickly became a national symbol of political frustration and cultural backlash in 2021. What began as a viral moment at the NASCAR final at Talladaga the NBC reporter interviewed winner Brandon Brown. As the crowd began to chant "Fuck Joe Biden" the reporter suggested they were really chanting "Let's Go Brandon" and we were off to the races! "Mad King Biden" memes are all over social media as his approval ratings continue to plummet. "Let's Go Brandon quickly becomes a widely recognized expression of dissent during the first year of the Biden Administration. The Military is officially "Woke" and General Mark Milley  secretly calls China to tell them he will give them a "heads up" if we were to attack. Merrick Garland is calling on the FBI to investigate parents as Domestic Terrorists. Fauci is in the news with mandates for the Jab and masks. What happened to "My body My choice?" In this painting the"Let's Go Brandon" phrase became shorthand for broader concerns over inflation, mandates, media credibility, and public dissatisfaction with Joe Biden and the Biden Administration as a whole. This month Donald Trump launches his new Social Media Platform

Truth Social and Americans are joining in droves. "Follow the Truth". In this painting the work preserves the charged atmosphere of late 2021, when protest language spread rapidly through rallies, merchandise,  everyday conversation and records and how a spontaneous phrase became part of the political vocabulary of the era.
